SUBJECT:  Minutes of Post 2485 General Membership Meeting
 
OPENING CEREMONIES:  Commander Chesko called the meeting to order at 1000 hours in the Post House.  Opening ceremonies were held according to VFW Ritual. Twenty-one members were present. 
 
DISTINGUISHED MEMBERS:  Commander Chesko recognized the following distinguished members: Past NCMs Elliott and Zaher, PDCs Carsley, Schaefer, and Gasperson, Past District Commander Barsy, and Past Post Commanders Donaldson and Heilhecker.

 MEMBERSHIP APPLICATIONS:  Membership Chairman Wilsey said there were four applications in June: JOHNSON, Paul R., PICKERING, Timothy; MUSE, Ronald U.; and ROBINSON, Charles M. Comrade Wilsey moved and Comrade Carsley seconded that the applicants be accepted for membership in our Post. Motion carried.
 
READING OF MINUTES:  Adjutant pro temp Elliott moved and Comrade Donaldson seconded that the Minutes of the June GMM be accepted as posted subject to correction. Motion carried. 
 
CORRESPONDENCE:  Adjutant p.t. Elliott read the following correspondence: 1)  a letter from Ambassador Thomas thanking Commander Heilhecker for a Clark Cemetery briefing and wreath-laying ceremony on June 18; 2) a letter and donation of $1,000.00 from retired Colonel Diane Ordes, former Clark Air Base 3rd Combat Support Group Commander,  3) notice from Jim Boyd of the RAO about an Embassy Outreach Program tentatively scheduled for August 5 at the Euro-Asia Hotel; 4) notice from DPA that Comrades Zaher and Wilsey received appointments to the National Veterans Service Resolutions Committee and a trip to the National Convention in August.
 
QUARTERMASTER’S REPORT:  QM Gasperson said that QM-related Convention duties prevented him from preparing his books for audit. He will have the Convention QM Report and monthly reports for April, May, June, and July ready for the August GMM.
 
TRUSTEES’ REPORT:  Trustee One-Year Elliott said the Trustees will conduct audits of the QM’s Convention books and monthly reports for April, May, June, and July before the August GMM.
 
JUDGE ADVOCATE’S REPORT:  Negative report
 
SERVICE OFFICER’S REPORT: Excused
 
COMRADE OR FAMILY OF A COMRADE IN DISTRESS: None
MEMBERSHIP REPORT:  Chairman Wilsey reported that membership at the start of the new year stands at 1,508 members, 96.91% of last year’s figure of 1,576 members, with 1,490 Life Members. (Attachment A)
 
CHILDREN’S OPERATIONS PROGRAM:  Chairman Wilsey reported that two bilateral cleft lip operations were conducted in June at a cost of $900.00. Two members spent four man/hours in handling the case. Donations received totaled $706.00; the remaining balance in the fund is $6,962.25.
 
HOSPITAL REPORT:  Chairman Rasmussen said Comrade Shoates is in the Sacred Heart Hospital and needs blood. The blood must be donated through AUF. He also said that flu shots are available at the Manila OPC.
 
SAFETY REPORT: Comrade Zaher urged the members to be careful driving during the rainy season, especially now with children back in school.
 
CLARK CEMETERY/GRAVE DIGGERS REPORT: Chairman Heilhecker reported that four local hire employees worked 750 man-hours maintaining the grounds of Clark Cemetery. CDC continues to maintain the outside area. Total expenses for June 2010 were $1,185.00. Donations received totaled $2,131.00, including $700.00 from organizations, $1,106.00 from individuals, and $325.00 from Grave Digger memberships. Total GD membership now stands at 930 members. Post 2485 conducted two military burials, and on June 18, together with DPA Commander Malott, assisted U.S. Ambassador Harry Thomas in a wreath-laying ceremony. COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES REPORT: Chairman Zaher said he was sorry to report that the Post did not get National Community Activities Post of the Year Award. He thanked Past Post Commander Heilhecker for his support and asked the members to continue their hard work again this year.  He also reported on a successful Convention and a great Hospitality Room, and emphasized that the success was due to a team effort, not the efforts of any single member.
 
POST HOUSE COMMITTEE REPORT:  Chairman Prinz reported that arrangements have been made for in stalling a dedicated ISP line from Comclark to give us greater security for our POS system. He said a three-man committee will conduct a complete review of the waitress and kitchen staff schedule to aim for more efficient use of personnel. Also, quotes are being obtained for a new stand-up type air conditioner in the dining room area. PHC Member Dietz was appointed to liaise with the Canteen Manager and keep an eye on routine maintenance items in the Canteen and recommend action to the PHC. The Employee of the Month for June is Evelyn Sarito of the kitchen staff.
 
POST REVIEW COMMITTEE: No report. 
 
PUP TENT 15 REPORT: Seam Squirrel Tom Aldrich said this month’s Scratch will be held on Tuesday, July 13, from 1400 hours in the Post Meeting room.
 
POST RELIEF COMMITTEE REPORT:  No report. 
 
BUDDY POPPY REPORT:  Absent
 
WEBMASTER’S REPORT:  Webmaster Carlton read the report. He estimated that 6,650 pages were viewed during June, about average for the past year.
 
VOD/PATRIOT’S PEN REPORT:  The new VOD/PP year has not begun yet.
 
LIBRARY REPORT:  Absent
 
VFW NATIONAL HOME FOR CHILDREN:  Chaplain Donaldson led the members in a prayer for the children in the VFW National Home for Children. 
 
UNFINISHED BUSINESS: None
           
NEW BUSINESS: The proposed budget for 2010-11 was distributed and reviewed. Comrade Wilsey moved and Comrade Gasperson seconded that the proposed budget be accepted subject to quarterly review. Motion carried
 
GOOD OF THE ORDER1) Past Post Commander Heilhecker pinned Commander Chesko with the traditional Post Commander’s pin; 2) Comrade Zaher reminded the members that a limited supply of Convention shirts and towels are still available; 3) Commander Chesko spoke about a new medical service called The Medical City headquartered in Manila but managing and operating the former Mercedes Medical Center here in Angeles City, and continuing to provide inpatient, outpatient, and pharmacy benefits to TRICARE members; 4) Comrade Wilsey spoke in detail about the activities of the Post as a marketeer for PRA; 5) Commander Chesko presented Certificates of Appreciation from Department to Comrades Donaldson, Elliott, Gasperson, and Heilhecker; 6) Adjutant p.t. Elliott said the Post received three National Certificates of Recognition for National Military Services, Outstanding Post Youth Activities Program Activities, and Outstanding Post Community Service Program Activities. 7) the 50-50 drawing was won by Comrade Schaefer, with 1,150 pesos each going to the winner and the Post; 8) Comrades O’Keefe and Aldrich won the meal gift certificates.
 
CLOSING CEREMONIES:   Closing Ceremonies were held according to Ritual and the meeting was adjourned at 1050 hours. Twenty-two members were present. The next GMM will be held on August 1, with Officers’ Call on Wednesday, July 28.
